Target Bronx Community Garden – formerly known as the Anderson Garden – has been used by gardeners since 1982 to raise vegetables and fruit, including tomatoes, corn, pears, and apples. The garden is situated on the eastern side of a hill with trees, shrubs and rocky outcroppings that lead down to Anderson Avenue.
With underwriting from Target, NYRP commissioned acclaimed landscape designer Sean Conway to re-imagine a child-friendly, green space to better the neighborhood’s diverse needs. Conway’s design includes an expansive lawn, which often accommodates large groups for free arts performances and serves the neighboring school as an outdoor classroom. The garden focuses on urban farming and includes a patio and outdoor cooking area for community gatherings.
